MS congratulates North Wales winners of ‘rural Oscars’

An MS has congratulated businesses from North Wales that have scooped up prestigious awards.

Llyr Gruffydd MS, who represents the region in the Senedd, said the Countryside Alliance Awards, which have been dubbed the ‘Rural Oscars’ are an opportunity to “showcase those businesses that go the extra mile.”

Llanbenwch Caravan Park, near Ruthin, won in the Best Rural Enterprise category, Jones A’i Fab, in Llanrwst, won in the Butcher Award category, and the White Lion, in Cerrigydrudion, won in the Rural Pub Award category

Mr Gruffydd, of Plaid Cymru, said that it’s “more important than ever to support and celebrate” the businesses that are “the cornerstone of our rural communities in Wales”.

The Awards were created because of a need to support and promote rural communities.

They celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that rural communities, the country’s food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills, forward-thinking enterprises and, most of all, its people, can flourish.

There are five categories in total, which are the Local Food Award, the Village shop/ Post Office Award, the Rural Enterprise Award, the Butcher Award, and the Rural Pub Award.

The Wales winners were announced at the Senedd an event that was co-sponsored by Mr Gruffydd, who is his party’s Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs.

Llyr Gruffydd MS said: “I would like to extend my warm congratulations to the winners from North Wales at this year’s Countryside Alliance Awards.

“These prestigious awards are an opportunity to showcase those businesses that go the extra mile.”

“Businesses such as Jones A’i Fab, Llanbenwch Caravan Park, and the White Lion deserve recognition for the valuable contribution they are making because they are the cornerstone of our rural communities in Wales.

“It’s a testament to the hard work and dedicated service they provide to their communities.

“We all know that our rural communities are under real pressure at the moment and that’s why it’s more important than ever to support and celebrate these businesses.”
